Landon-in-China offers participants the opportunity to experience one of the world's
most fascinating countries. China, aside from its exponential rate of economic growth and
subsequent arrival in world politics, also holds a deep culture with roots thousands of years
old. Either through travel, language immersion, or both, our program aims to provide an outlet for
intersted students to enjoy themselves and explore China's rich culture, language, and landscape.
Students may partake in a two-week travel section, a four-week language immpersion program, or both. The travel section provides a brief survey of China, stopping in several major cities and at various landmarks. Past destinations have included the cities of Beijing, Chengdu, and Shanghai as well as travel along the Three Gorges and the famous Great Wall of China. The Immersion includes longer stays in several cities and concentrates on developing Chinese language skills. Students live with host families and attend classes in the morning; afternoons and weekends are dedicated to travel and cultural events. Both travel and immersion offer students an excellent experience of China and its culture. Dr. Dali Tan, a member of the foreign languages department at Landon, will lead the trip in China. A native of Shenyang, she has led China travel study tours for students from Landon and St. Catherine’s School in Richmond, VA. Dr. Tan also established the “China-at-Landon” ESL program, which brings Chinese students to Landon for instruction and cultural exchange. |
